While I don't trust Microsoft completely, I trust them much more than I do Google or other unknown app devs. Google's keyboard, while strong on features, seems to be a privacy nightmare. This means that any third party keyboard can see and send what you type back to the developers.

Swiftkeys is free with in-app purchases which seem to only be the themes. So Yeah prdictive text has always been since Nokia and Microsoft love story there. It's contingent upon signing into the swiftkeys account so that it can back-up and store your dictionary and settings. Microsoft have bought years ago when windows mobile was thing the Swift keyboard(not sure of the name anymore) which was and still is the best keyboard on screen ever. Specific to your question, it has the ability to delete individual auto-predicted words instead of having to remove the entire dictionary. I've been evaluating it for a while now and have found it quite capable. There is a potential solution, however, if you're willing to use a 3rd party keyboard - Microsoft Swiftkeys. This is definitely something you want to submit feedback for: It’s an all-or-nothing scenario meaning if you accidentally added a misspelled word, you can’t remove just that one, all your custom words must go. The only remedy is to reset the Keyboard Dictionary ( Settings -> General -> Reset -> Reset Keyboard Dictionary) and that too, is quite limited. So is it possible to remove this formatting line? I have no use for it.Unfortunately, this is not possible. (and I have no interest in getting an apple phone. The reason I want to stick with SwiftKey is because it syncs my writing style between my phone and my iPad.

Now it appears that since this latest update (I downloaded it yesterday) the predictions are in 3 spaces in between these symbols, but it's STILL on the SwiftKey keyboard above the prediction line. It was there before the most recent (a couple days ago) update. It added yet another line to the keyboard (and it's slightly taller than the predictive line), so it takes up even more space for something I am viewing. The one I wanted to remove had two arrows on it, (forward and back?), a clipboard and the shortcuts to make the text bold, italicized, underlined and apparently up and down. This was a line ABOVE the predictive text line. At that time, the Apple keyboard took up less space. As I say, I used both the Apple and the SwiftKey keyboards on the iPad. So I was happy when SwiftKey came to the iPad.
